gm 🌱Urban Vidovič — decentralized identity, verifiable credentials, and Web3 engineer

I'm Urban, a Software Engineer from Maribor, Slovenia. I currently work at Blockchain Lab:UM and Lutra Labs as a Research & Development Engineer. I have a Master's degree in Computer Science acquired at Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Maribor.

Focus areas

Three threads run through most of what I build. They overlap more than they look like they should.

Decentralized identity

Issuers, wallets, and verifiers built to the OID4VC family of specifications and ISO 18013-5/-7 — the standards behind mobile driving licences and EU digital identity wallets. The interesting work is rarely the happy path: it is selective disclosure, trust registries, revocation, and the stubborn business of making one vendor's wallet accept another vendor's credential without either side loosening its security model.

Protocols and smart contracts

Protocol design and implementation in Solidity and Sway, including lending markets and onchain reputation. I care most about the properties that cannot be retrofitted after launch: upgrade paths, invariants that hold under adversarial conditions, and failure behaviour that degrades safely rather than silently. Audits catch bugs; they do not fix an architecture that assumed nothing would ever go wrong.

Systems and tooling

The infrastructure that makes the above usable — Rust and Node backends, indexers, dashboards, CI, and the internal tooling nobody demos but everybody depends on. I would rather own a feature from the protocol layer through to the interface than hand it across three teams and negotiate the seams afterwards.

Currently

At Blockchain Lab:UM I work on EU-funded applied research where the deliverable is a working reference implementation rather than a report — standards-based identity infrastructure that has to interoperate with everyone else's. At Lutra Labs, which I co-founded in 2024, I run operations and still ship code: LutraID for digital identity issuance and verification, Swaylend on Fuel, Replicant Network, and endorse.fun.

There is a longer version of all of this on the about page. About

Projects

A few things I've built across identity, Web3, and product work.

  • LutraID

LutraID is a compliant platform for issuing and verifying digital documents. It brings together issuer and verifier workflows, wallet-facing credential issuance, and standards-based verification flows for modern digital identity systems. (Developed @ Lutra Labs)

  • Masca

A MetaMask snap, bringing decentralized identity capabilities to the MetaMask wallet. Manage your DIDs and VCs, choose where to store received credentials, and share customized VPs. (Developed @ Lutra Labs)

  • Swaylend

The first and leading lending protocol on Fuel Network. Utilizing FuelVM, written in Sway. Earn as you supply the base asset or supply collateral and borrow the base asset yourself. (Developed @ Lutra Labs)

  • EduCTX V2

Issue and receive educational Verifiable Credentials conforming to the latest W3C decentralized identity standards, and store them in Masca. (Developed @ Blockchain Lab:UM)
